Hartford Initiates Youth Service Corps

The mayor of Hartford announced a program to give young people of Hartford an opportunity to earn a paycheck. The city will be putting the young teens that are out of school and unemployed to work. They will performs cleanup and renovations in the local area.

The mayor said that $5.5 million had been collected for a program to cleanup and beautify a section of the city. Two-hundred under served teens and young adults will learn to work and earn pay. The ages for employment are: 16 to 24.

The money came from state, federal grants, and donations. The program will be managed by Youth Service Corps and the Rebuilding Together Hartford project. They will renovate about 30 properties in the North Hartford Promise Zone. This project will build a better future for Hartford and strengthen the neighborhoods.
